‘diversity is being asked to the party, inclusion is being asked to dance, and belonging is being able to dance however you want’
Hi, I’m Genevieve. I’m one of those annoying people who, if you say – ‘I’ve got a challenge for you’ – just cannot say no. Whether it’s an unplanned (and unmapped) cycle trip across the Alps, teaching myself to swim ahead of a half ironman triathlon, or tackling the systemic D&I problems across the construction industry – I’m in – hook, line and sinker.
As someone who loves challenge and grit, rugby has long since defined a huge part of my identity. It’s where I first understood the dynamics of a high performing team, the importance of leadership and the necessity of shared values, goals and purpose. It’s where I met my best mates, learned to down a pint, and take a hit to the face. In the same breath, rugby has also taught me how to overcome adversity and nurture resilience. Having recovered from multiple back breakages and an ACL reconstruction, I’ve learned to enjoy the process, as the learnings and relationships you build along the journey are invariably far more valuable than any trophy.
On the professional playing field my Anthropology degree, coupled with a fascination for what makes people really tick, is what catapulted me into the world of business consultancy. I am constantly fuelled by a need to truly understand what drives people to do what they do, and therefore how can we leverage that to create the very best performers.
Since early 2020 I’ve been immersed (both personally and professionally) in the world of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (ED&I). Working with organisations to create a step change in their organisational culture, and foster a much truer sense of belonging and purpose. Two areas which are inextricably linked to both organisational and individual high performance.
