Support first, challenge later
I’m Dan, an ex-professional rugby player with Leicester Tigers, Bath and England. I have been part of some great teams and won three Premiership and one Anglo-Welsh Title alongside 13 International caps for England playing in 2007 World Cup Final.
I was forced to retire through injury in 2013 and spent time initially as a Project Manager in the construction industry before entering the world of facilitation, coaching and consulting. My experience in successful teams within a typically ‘macho’ environment leaves me well placed in understanding the challenging conditions of operational leadership, particularly in the construction industry.
I am an advocate of focusing on people’s strengths and feel supporting first and challenge second, leads to improved performance.
I aim to promote a psychologically safe environment within my own coaching sessions as well as frequently giving and receiving feedback. I aim to use a positive psychology approach to training, as I did during my Rugby career, looking primarily at what was right, where strengths lie and how to apply these effectively in a work environment. I use a range of experiences from the world of elite sport and business to inform my coaching and leadership ethos, sharing my intimate knowledge of high performance teams.
Outside of Rugby, I enjoy spending time in the kitchen cooking for my partner Sophie and our two children, Florence and Sonny.
